About Us

Hi there fibre friend and welcome to Society Knits!

My name is Sally and I wear all the hats involved in running Society Knits.

Society Knits has been an evolving concept for me over the past 2 years. After the birth of my first child, I fell back in love with knitting and was introduced to the world spinning, indie dyers and mystery knitalongs. This foray into the fibre world has sparked a deep desire to create a store that showcased Australian fibre businesses.

As much as I love and lust after so many fibre products being produced by the ever growing Australian fibre artist community, a small part of me is saddened each time I see that the fibre's first origin is from an overseas country. I grew up on a merino sheep farm and so thoroughly appreciate the work that goes into producing our Australian fibre. Hence, you will find that I have tried to the best of my ability to showcase fibre businesses that can thoroughly trace the origins of their products to Australia. Whilst often more expensive, I believe it is worth it.

Additionally you will see our upcycled collection. This is a small batch, limited edition selection of recycled yarns. These provide a great alternative to new handdyed yarns and has the added bonus of reducing our textile waste.
